GHANA’S INDEPENDENCE DAY AWAITS NII COMMEY’S “WHERE TWO OR MORE WOMEN ARE GATHERED”

On Independence Day, the writer and director of legendary plays like Romantic Nonsense and You May Kiss The Corpse, Nii Commey returns to the stage with the much awaited play “where two or more women are gathered.”
THE TITLE
The title, over, the past few months has become a great social debate amongst Ghanaians. People have drawn conclusions that WHERE TWO OR MORE WOMEN ARE GATHERED, there can only be gossip. Is that the case?
Already, there has been a strong endorsement from some of Ghana’s influential people.
THE STORYLINE
LAUGH FOR LIVES PUB is the centre of drama, suspense and wits. Three old school girls, Bikini, Kisiwaa and Karoline, meet at the latter’s pub in a surprised fashion, and you will be amazed at how they begin to chronicle their lives from the past to present and to the future. It is amazing how each one of them has formed their own perception about life. It took just a little dram for the shocking revelations to sneak out of the heads and pour out from the three women. The unexpected then became real.
THEMATIC CONCERNS
The themes underlining this play are so real and alive; and they possibly sound transgenerational. Nii Commey addresses issues of successful single women, and the intimidations men face in approaching them; he underlines the repercussions of choices that are mostly influenced as a result of societal perception, irrespective of how they affect the decision maker in the long run.
SIDE ATTRACTION
KODA, one of Ghana’s finest gospel musicians as well as Addaquaye will be treating audience to some amazing songs. These are two great musicians whose styles of music permeates all generations. They are noted for sing-along songs, body-moving, inspirational and modest entertaining tunes
THE TYPICAL STYLE OF NII COMMEY
There is one thing that distinguishes Nii Commey from the rest of Playwrights or creative writers- his undiluted understanding of theatre and his unlimited wits. Professor Landmark, an afro American, after enjoying one of Nii Commey’s plays said:
“I am a amazed a young writer could think so deep and make wits and fun out of such issues. I will watch this play over and over again, and I will tell my grandchildren to tell their children to make sure they watch this play.”
One thing is certain. Nii Commey’s plays stand the test of generational time. His employment of humour comes so natural; his dialogues are side-splitting, and mimicking of the ills of society is usually profound.
